Shantanu Mukherjee, also known as Shaan, was born in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. Shaan’s father, Manash Mukherjee, was a music director and his grandfather, Jahar Mukherjee was a lyricist. Shaan was only thirteen when his father passed away following which his mother raised him along with his sister, Sagarika. He began his career by singing jingles for advertisements. He then partnered up with his sister to create pop albums such as Naujawan and Q Funk that helped them establish themselves in the music industry.

The duo took a big step forward with the song Roop Tera Mastana which was a remix of Rahul Dev Burmans song. Shaan became a sensational hit post the release of his album Tanha Dil. The song Bhool Ja from the same album struck a chord with millions of fans. Shaan’s remixed versions of old songs such as Hum Bewafa and Dil Kya Kare were some of his best works. Shaan has hosted music reality shows such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs and Star Voice of India. By the time Shaan entered Bollywood, he was already a pop star. Some of his notable songs include Musu Musu and Woh Pehli Baar from Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, Woh Ladki Hai Kahan from Dil Chahta Hai, O Humdum Suniyo Re from Saathiya, Dus Bahane from Dus, Ladki Kyun from Hum Tum, Main Hoon Don from Don – The Chase Begins Again and Chaand Sifarish from the movie Fanaa. He will soon be seen in the movie Balwinder Singh… Famous Ho Gaya, releasing in September 2014.
